Frequently Asked Questions about the YoungSTARS Program

 

Can a parent/child attend one class in order to decide if they want to participate in a full session of YoungSTARS?

Due to insurance purposes, a child must be registered in order to participate in a YoungSTARS class.  However, if you would prefer a look/see - we would encourage you to visit and observe a class of YoungSTARS while it is in motion.  Classes may be observed through a viewing window at our facility.  You are more than welcome to speak with one of our coaches after the class to gain more insight as well. 

What do parents do while the YoungSTARS class is in session?  

Parents may stay in the Parent Locker Room and either observe the class through a viewing window or they may sit back and relax. Only YoungSTARS participants and their coaches are permitted in the gym during class times. Parents are not required to stay at the facility while the class is in session.  Please be sure the administrator of YoungSTARS has contact information should you leave the facility. 

Should we have inclement weather, how will I know if class is cancelled and when the class will be made up? 

Please call the BVSC Weather Line at 913-599-9998 to hear the latest weather messages.  If a class is cancelled, it will be made up the following Thursday at the same time. 

Can I sign up for a YoungSTARS session in the middle of the 5-week session?

Due to the ages of our YoungSTARS, we have strict coach/child ratios that we maintain throughout the sessions.  Having said that, should we have an opening in a class, we would be happy to enroll your child.  You would be charged only for the number of classes remaining in the session at a rate of $12 per class.  If, however, our classes are full during that session, we would encourage you to sign up for the next 5-week session of classes. 

Does my child need to wear shin guards? 

We recommend that all YoungSTARS participants wear shin guards for protection.  We will be using actual soccer balls in all of our classes.  Due to the popularity of the sport, shin guards are easily found in most sporting goods stores in our area – Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nill Brothers, MC Sports to name a few.  

Will my child have the same coach throughout the session? 

In all BVSC programs, we aim to have consistent experienced coaches committed to our programs and their players from start to finish.  This way the coach gets to know their players and the players get to know what is expected from their coach.  Rarely, a coach may miss a class due to illness or personal reasons.  Should this happen, be assured that the substitute coach is also an experienced soccer coach that is able to step in and coach the class in a professional manner.  

My child loves YoungSTARS, how do I sign him/her up for more classes?

Are BVSC coaches required to have a background check?

All of our BVSC coaches and staff are required to have background checks before working in any of our programs – including YoungSTARS.
